Notes & Sources
- Public holidays in Germany are designated by the holiday acts of the 16 federal states; the nine listed are common to all states. The Day of German Unity is established federally by the Unification Treaty, Art. 2(2): gesetze-im-internet.de/einigvtr.
- German law provides no substitute day when a holiday falls on a weekend: the Day of German Unity (Sat 03 Oct) and the Second Day of Christmas (Sat 26 Dec) are not made up in 2026.
- States add up to four further holidays (Epiphany, Corpus Christi, Reformation Day, All Saints' Day and others), bringing totals to 10-13 days depending on the state.
