Notes & Sources

  1. The seven obligatory rest days (dias de descanso obligatorio) are set by Article 74 of the Federal Labour Law and are the only statutory public holidays nationwide: diputados.gob.mx.
  2. Three commemorations are observed on a fixed Monday rather than the historic date: Constitution Day (5 Feb) on the first Monday of February, Benito Juarez's Birthday (21 Mar) on the third Monday of March, and Revolution Day (20 Nov) on the third Monday of November.
  3. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Day of the Dead (2 Nov) and the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe (12 Dec) are widely observed culturally but are not statutory rest days. 5 May is an obligatory rest day for federal public servants only, not for the private sector.
